Experiments with lemons: filling a balloon


Things you need for this experiment:

  • a measuring cup to one ounce (30 ml) of water
  • empty plastic soda bottle
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • plastic sorbet
  • juice of one lemon
  • a measuring spoon
  • a cutting board
  • a sharp knife

On the table will cut the lemon in half with a knife. Shall squeeze lemon on a plastic container. We help plastic spoon to remove the seeds.

Stretch the balloon over the bottle to make sure it comes. Then remove it.

Then pour water into the bottle empty and clean soda. Just then add the baking powder and stir with a straw.

After that, quickly add the lemon juice, then place the balloon over the top of the bottle. And the balloon is inflated.

What happened?

Baking powder and lemon acid and carbon dioxide create thereby air inflates the balloon.

Notes: Be careful not to cut with the knife. Adults should always supervise children when they are conducting experiments.
